If you bought something from Power Computing Ltd, of Kempston near
Bedford, and it worked OK, then accept my hearty congratulations. You need
not bother reading the rest of this file !
If you bought crap from Power Computing Ltd, which didn't work
properly, or didn't work as advertised, or you had problems with it but
they fixed it, or you had problems with it which they couldn't fix, but
refunded your money without a lot of bother, then that is OK too, and
you can skip the rest of this file !
But, if you bought crap from Power Computing Ltd, such as (for example) a
"Multi Drive" disk drive unit for your ST, which did not work properly
as advertised and you had no satisfaction from them whatever, then read
the following case; it may be of help to you...

Peterborough County Court Case No. 9203591
Issue Date: 30 Mar 92
Particulars of the Plaintiff's claim:
On 3rd October 1991, I bought from Power Computing Ltd.
a "Tri 3.5"/5.25" Multi Drive" disk drive unit for my
Atari Mega ST2 computer.
When connecting the unit to my computer in accordance
with the instructions provided I found that it did not
work and it also stopped my computer from working.
On 7th October 1991 I returned to the premises of Power
Computing Ltd. with the "multi drive". It was claimed
by one of the defendants (known to me as Tony) that the
fault was in the connecting cable supplied with the
unit and provided me with a replacement cable.
When I re-connected the "multi drive" unit together
with the new cable to my computer I found that although
it did not stop my computer from working as previously
the "multi drive" unit was still not working properly.
I explained the fault to Power Computing Ltd. in my
letter dated 7th October 1991.
I had no reply.
I wrote to Power Computing Ltd. again on 28th January
1992 explaining the problem again asking for a remedy.
I had no reply.
I wrote to Power Computing Ltd. on 4th March 1992 to
complain that the "multi drive" unit is not fit for the
purpose intended and asked for a refund of the cost of
the unit of £145.00 (£123.40 plus £21.60 VAT) otherwise
I would have to start a claim in the county court.
I had no reply.
The "multi drive" unit is in its original packing and
in the same mint condition as it was on the day I took
delivery of it from Power Computing Ltd.
Copies of all correspondence are held on file.

...then if you wait ten days or so, after you file your plaint in court,
you may well get your money back (as I did), as well as the plaint fee,
which the court charges for their service...
My immediate reaction after that cock-up was to swear (again) that it
would be a very long time before I part with any hard cash, in answer to
a slick advertisement in any magazine...
Unfortunately, we tend to forget our nasty experiences too quickly, and
are usually rather optimistic that the next experience cannot possibly be
quite as bad...
Don't you believe it...
My experience with Power Computing Ltd. came right on the heels of
another expensive and unpleasant experience with Datel Electronics of
Stoke-on-Trent.
This firm not only did not fulfill their obligations, and ignored
repeated letters from me, they didn't even bother to reply to my
(expensive) solicitor or heed his warning to take them to court...
Happy shopping, and the best of luck... ZB
